Some Christians think the `Darwin Fish' (left) is insulting to Christianity.
Well if you're the sort of Christian who is insulted by that, perhaps you deserve to be! I think it is quite funny in an irreverant sort of way, and OK yes it is a parody of the popular Christian fish symbol, but it makes a serious point too.
Where did Darwin's wonderful and beautiful insights come from ultimately? Perhaps from God? Science and religion should not be seen as in conflict. Scientists unearth the `laws' of nature, but when we step back and marvel at their beauty and wonder why we are living in a world which is ordered by such principles we are on a religious quest.
Science does not attempt to explain where science comes from. But religion does. And Darwin can be seen as powerful evidence for the existence of a God.

Michael Ruse, the philosopher (and an atheist), has written an interesting book "Can a Darwinian be a Christian?", Kenneth Miller has "Finding Darwin's God", and my own teacher for all things evolution, the late Stephen Jay Gould has "Rock of Ages".
Part of the problem is the way in which Dawkins, Hitchens and Harris all make a logical jump and assume Darwinian theory necessitates atheism. If you want good philophers who tear apart Dawkins, Mary Midgley "The Myths we Live By", and David Stove "Darwinian Fairtales" are pretty sharp.
I agree that Dawkins et al have caused a rather crude polarisation in the debate. Thanks for your recommended reading - will follow up some of these.
